Pastel Portraits
Pictured behind: The Fiddler of Dooney
This painting was done for my 2016 Exhibition Come Away, featuring the poetry of W.B. Yeats. The likeness in this painting uses an image of the late Tommy Peeples, an all-Ireland award-winner famous for his fiddle-playing.
Portrait of Martin
My cousin Anne commissioned me to paint this for her son's 50th birthday. Did pencil drawings of him in his own home, then built up the full painting back at my studio.
Portrait of John Mc C
My friend Martin in our choir commissioned me to paint this of his best friend for a 60th birthday present.
Portrait of John B
The power of social media is wonderful! This was my next commission in the football strip of his favourite team.
Portrait of John M
Once again, John saw my work on my social media and as he was about to move to Galway, I had one week to sketch, paint and have mounted and framed and I managed to do it in time!
Portrait of Paul H
En route to visit my aunt Phyllis in the nursing home (and having taken the COVID test as required) I collected my friend Patricia and headed off. A piece of metalwork fell from an agricultural vehicle just in front of me. I had no time to swerve, so I had to make an emergency stop. My tyre was blown!
This lovely gentleman was gardening and came out to offer help. He got us on the road again within a half an hour, and we made it to the nursing home on time.
Since it was a lovely day and he would take no money, I asked him to pose for a photograph with my friend. This is the portrait I did for him as a surprise!
Portrait of Séamus
My friend Karen, who is a painter but doesn't do portraits, commissioned me to do this one of her Dad for his 80th birthday. Sláinte / Cheers!
Portrait of Stevie
Stevie is one of our local characters, who enjoys live music in our local pub at the weekend. Having seen my portrait paintings, he asked me to paint his.
Portrait of Rebecca
Rebecca's Dad commissioned me to paint this as a surprise for his daughter. As you can see from her sportswear, she's a Linfield lady!
I've really enjoyed painting a female for a change!
